RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reporting to the AVP, Individual Wealth Actuarial, the incumbent in this role will be responsible for providing direction to a team of actuarial students in performing actuarial valuations, modeling and analysis of Segregated Fund business within Individual Insurance and Investments.
- The individual in this role will analyze requirements and work in partnership with Individual Finance and Canadian Actuarial to implement solutions with respect to reserves, capital and assumptions.
- Produce and understand results relating to quarterly financial reporting on Canadian GAAP, US GAAP and IFRS basis.
- Stochastic modeling.
- Perform calculations related to Market Risk Tolerance Limits, Capital.
- Provide actuarial expertise to key business partners including Corporate, Canadian Finance, Audit, ALM, IT, Pricing and Product Managers.
- Responsible for financial planning and modeling, including:
- Dynamic Capital Adequacy Testing, Planning, Risk Management Measures, Embedded Value, Analysis of Change, Value of New Business, Source of Earnings, Appointed Actuary's Report.
- Provide sign-off for reserves and other financial information for completeness and compliance with internal and external policies.
- Responsibility for the controls and reconciliations pertaining to integrity of models, reserves and quarterly net income.
- Communicate results (both written and verbal) of modeling/reserves/SoE to Canadian Finance, peer reviewers, auditors and regulators.
- Active participant in monthly SEGMA meetings.
- Recommend, review and implement all assumption and model changes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- FCIA (Fellow Canadian Institute of Actuaries) / FSA. Our client will also consider someone who is close to fellowship but title / compensation will vary
- 3+ years of actuarial experience.
- Flexible, creative approach to work and a willingness to challenge the status quo.
- Effective decision-maker.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Persuasive and articulate.
- Demonstrated people management capability.
- Understanding of Individual wealth annuity products and their distribution channel strategies is helpful.
